WHAT MAKES ANDREW DIFFERENT
We utilize the Psychiatric Rehabilitation model and the evidence based practice Illness Management and Recovery to work cooperatively with our residents when formulating the individual treatment plan. Through a series of assessments and discussion of prior experiences, the resident and their program manager form a partnership to focus on eliminating self-defeating behaviors and replacing them with skills and behaviors that increase their independence and autonomy. All staff that serve as program managers receive training in this method. Residents have the opportunity to attend groups that focus on therapeutic recreation, independent living skills, and interpersonal skills. We have an in-house vocational program that recognizes Andrew residents require a supportive and structured environment to learn job-seeking skills in order to prepare them for the competitive work in the community. Andrew also provides residents with 24-hour nursing care including a high degree of medication management, education for self administration of medication, diabetes management, and coordination of care with medical and psychiatric providers.
Those living at Andrew Residence have a mental illness such as Schizophrenia, Bipolar disorder or Major Depression. Other diagnoses include Personality disorders, Anxiety disorders, Chemical Dependency and Obsessive Compulsive disorder. The residents are culturally diverse in ethnicity, race, spirituality and sexual preference. Ages of our residents range from 20-75 years old.
